3 Step Sparring

3 step sparring is a demonstration of basic punches and blocks performed by two people in defence and attack. Each combination is made up of three steps demonstrating an inner block, outer block, high section and low section blocks against punches and kicks to these areas. Each person takes turns at being the attacker and defender.

Preparation: it will be predecided upon who will be the attacker and go first throwing the strike at the defender.

Starting position: the defender and attacker will stand facing each other at arms length away from one another.

Attack 1: the attacker will step forward into a walking stance throwing a mid section punch at the defender over 3 steps.

Defence 1: the defender will step back into a walking stance and perform a mid section inward block to block the strike over 3 steps.

Finish 1: the defender will counter the third strike by blocking the strike and countering with a reverse punch. Finally revert back to ready stance by having the defender step backwards into ready position and attacker step forward.

This first technique demonstration restarts now by with attacker and defender roles reversed.

Attack 2: the attacker will step forward into a walking stance throwing a mid section punch at the defender over 3 steps.

Defence 2: the defender will step back into a walking stance and perform a mid section outward block to block the strike over 3 steps.

Finish 2: the defender will counter the third strike by blocking the strike and countering with a reverse punch. Finally revert back to ready stance by having the defender step backwards into ready position and attacker step forward.

This is again repeated with roles reversed.

Attack 3: the attacker will step forward into a walking stance throwing a high section punch at the defender over 3 steps.

Defence 3: the defender will step back into a walking stance and perform a high section block to block the strike over 3 steps.

Finish 3: the defender will counter the third strike by blocking the strike and countering with a reverse punch. Finally revert back to ready stance by having the defender step backwards into ready position and attacker step forward.

This is again repeated with roles reversed.

Attack 4: the attacker will step forward into a walking stance throwing a front kick at the defender over 3 steps.

Defence 4: the defender will step back into a forward stance and perform a low section block to successfully block the kick over 3 steps.

Finish 4: the defender will counter the third kick by blocking the kick and countering with a reverse punch. Finally revert back to ready stance by having the defender step backwards into ready position and attacker step forward.

Finally, after reverting back to ready stances, both participants should bow to one another as a show of respect after the demonstration has been completed.
