Axe Kick (Naeryeo Chagi)

The video cannot be shown at the moment. Please try again later.

The axe kick (or hammer kick) allows for tremendous force to be applied as it is a downward kick where speed, power and gravity all play a part to make this technique particularly powerful.

The basic principles of performing an axe kick are (from a front stance position):

  1. Step through with your back leg
  2. Raise your leg upwards in a semi-circular rotation
  3. Whilst at the peek of your lift, drop the foot down onto the target in a controlled manner striking with the heel
  4. Control the leg after striking the target and revert to stance

There is an alternative edit of this technique on our YouTube channel, click here to view this version of the video.
